Compensation for loss of rental income from Developer neighbor?

Hi.
I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping someone can help me with a little advice here.
I've recently purchased a second property which I'm moving to shortly and my current residence is soon to be rented out. I've discovered my neighbor has applied for a planning permit to develop his side of the 1940's character Duplex we own (we have a shared central wall and roof and the building is double brick construction). Besides the fact I'm unhappy with the idea of being surrounded by townhouses overlooking my property on both sides (devaluing it in my view) I'm more concerned with my property remaining untenanted with the prospect of demolition of a joined house as well as ongoing building for several months. If his application is successful does anyone know if he would be liable to pay any sort of compensation for loss of rental income?
Any help here wold be really appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris.
