PhD scholarship not considered income

My husband and I want to buy our first property but his PhD scholarship is considered to be $0.00 income by the lenders we have gone to. This means our borrowing power is based on my income only and he is considered my 'dependant spouse'. We can't borrow enough on my income and we are out of the property market for several more years unless/until we can find a lender who will approve his income. Can anyone help? Thanks
