Shared Driveway Atop Divided Land

We have recently purchased a residential property (in Qld) which has a shared driveway with the property next door. The land for our property ends in (approx) the middle of the driveway, where the next property's land begins (with properties being beside each other & the driveway in the middle of the properties). The driveway gives us both our only method of accessing our own carports/garages. I was wondering what our rights and responsibilities were with regard to the driveway given the shared nature? We don't want our garage access lost if possible!

Based on your description it would appear as if your neighbours would/could/should have similar concerns.

If the driveway is designed to service adjoining properties it should appear as a 'right of access' (or similar) clause in your contract. It may also be listed as common property.

Certainly a question for your solicitor. What did they say before you signed your contract?
