I'm considering buying an investment property through my SMSF but am not sure where to turn for advice... Should I talk to an accountant first? A broker? A real estate agent? Anyone have any suggestions?

    not any of those... haha
you really need a accounting-based financial planner to be able to navigate the legalities of an SMSF, also to give you the 'investment advice' needed for your smsf-trust.
I set mine up with Future Assist they where super helpful and the process was a lot quicker than my accountant told me (6 months)... however FA was able to do it in a couple and sorted all the legalities out for me.
I rolled mine over into cash and ended up borrowing to buy a property which is now pos geared.
