New research indicates Brisbane property investors are "buying in their own backyard".

As investment activity returns to the city, PRDnationwide has found the vast majority of property investors are Brisbane locals. The company's research director, Aaron Maskrey, said 86% of Brisbane investors came from within Queensland.

"Sellers looking to attract investors should consider that the majority of investors prefer to purchase smartly within their own backyard," he said.

PRDnationwide research shows most property investors in the city came from inner city suburbs, and chose to invest in these same suburbs.

New South Wales accounted for the second highest level of investors in the Brisbane market, at 7%. Only 1% of investor sales were to foreign property investors.
