The $10,000 Queensland Building Boost Grant has been given a three-month extension, it has been announced.

The boost offers a $10,000 grant to buyers of newly built homes in Queensland priced at less than $600,000, and was due to expire at the end of January. As of 11 January, only 3728 of the 14,000 grant applications had been awarded.

However, following an increase in applications for the grant and an improvement in building approvals in the state, the Queensland Treasury has decided to extend the scheme in the hope of further supporting the building industry.

The extension, which is tied in with the Queensland Government's mid-year economic review, now gives homebuyers until the end of April to lodge their application for the boost.
