Tasmania set to deliver more social housing

The Tasmanian government has pledged to boost the first round of its Community Housing Growth Program with an additional 764 homes to be delivered over the next three years.

Housing Minister Roger Jaensch said the homes will be spread across 10 local government areas and will support jobs in every region of the state.

"Importantly, there are further rounds of the program to follow and we remain committed to reaching the target of up to 1,000 new social houses to be delivered under this specific initiative," he said.

The homes are just a part of the government's overall $300m investment to deliver homes and end homelessness in the state. The investment is expected to deliver more than 1,500 new homes over the next three years. Over 400 homes are due in the next 12 months.

There are 24 homes that are due for delivery in July in the construction site in East Devonport. The state government has provided $3.7m towards the construction of these homes.

"We are partnering with Housing Choices Tasmania to deliver them," Jaensch said. "The Tasmanian government’s housing plan is delivering more homes for more Tasmanians than ever before as we continue to rebuild a stronger Tasmania."
