The Germans who originally settled in this Adelaide suburb gave it its moniker – fitting, given that Klemzig was the first German immigrant hub in the country.

Since then, it has become a hub for young families, primarily because of the presence of several schools in the vicinity, including Klemzig Primary School, Marden Senior College south of the suburb, Vale Park Primary School and Felixstow Community School. The Marden shopping centre is nearby as well.

In the August 2017-2018 period, the supply of property in Klemzig did not move significantly, but both houses and units recorded a drop in the number of properties on the market. In this period, the unit market suffered a 7.1% decrease in values, although the three months to August 2018 indicated some positive recovery, pushing the median price up to $266,000.
