Conveniently located on the Goulburn Valley Highway just north of Shepparton, the suburb of Numurkah was originally the home of the Yorta Yorta people. Grey-headed and little red flying foxes nest in Numurkah and help pollinate the native trees. Many insect-eating microbats also aid in controlling the insect population here.
