Owners of office buildings across Australia will soon be required to inform potential renters or purchasers of the energy efficiency rating of their premises.

According to The Australian Financial Review, federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett said offices of 2,000sqm and above will be subject to the new regulation from July 2010.

The plans have prompted a number of developers and office owners to examine ways of improving the energy efficiency rating of their buildings. According to reports, a delegation of Victorian developers has accompanied the state's Planning Minister Justin Madden to the US on a fact-finding mission on energy efficiency.
