The southern Wollongong suburb of Cringila is in the middle of an interesting period.Full summary The southern Wollongong suburb of Cringila is in the middle of an interesting period.

With an affordable median house price of $377,500, it may seem like an attractive option, especially when capital growth of 33% in the last 12 months and 55% in the last three years is taken into account.

But the suburb does face some challenges at present, most noticeably the future of the nearby BHP Steelworks plant.

The plant is one of the biggest economic contributors in the area and its future is far from assured, and any reduction in its activities would likely have a significant flow-on effect on the wider Illawarra region.

There some positives to Cringila though, as the suburb is serviced by a rail line and is also a short drive from the Wollongong CBD.

Nearby Warrawong offers shopping opportunities, while neighbouring Port Kembla has excellent beachesClose
