Amenities top priority for Perth Buyers

By |

Buyers in the Perth market are on currently snapping up properties close to top-notch amenities, according to a report by The West Australian.

Data from realestate.com.au. showed that Shenton Park, which generated over 4,000 views on the site, held the top spot in the list of the most in-demand suburbs in Western Australia between January and November 2018.

Residential suburb Floreat hit 3, 965 property views per listing. This was followed by Subiaco (2,978), Nedlands (2,900) and Mount Hawthorn (2,892). In addition, the results showed that South Perth was the most searched suburb in WA from January to November 2018.

“The cafes, restaurants, parks, schools, accessibility and the picturesque South Perth Foreshore are just some of the main attractions of living in South Perth,”  Eric Hartanto, Harcourts Applecross licensee and sales director, told West Real Estate.

REIWA reported that over 12,000 people are currently living in the suburb, and Hartanto said that more buyers in the area are becoming inclined to secure properties that are well-designed, as well as those that were practical and easily maintained.

Other areas on the most searched list were coastal suburbs. These include Scarborough (second), Fremantle (third), Mandurah (fourth) and Cottesloe (sixth).

The strong demand is linked to the quality of Perth’s coastal suburbs, according to REA Group Chief Economist Nerida Conisbee.

“Many of the top beachside suburbs also have great amenities – good schools, public transport and retail. These are other factors that tend to drive a suburb’s popularity,” she said.

Conisbee also revealed that more buyers were looking to purchase in suburbs with great walkability.

“Whereas previous generations were prepared to sacrifice being able to walk to the shops for a big home on a big block, younger buyers are showing greater preference to be able to walk to work or to their local cafe,” she said.
