The state government of Queensland has announced that it will be extending the application for the land tax rebate in an effort to support landlords affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.
Landlords will now be given until then end of October to file their applications.
Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick said even with the lifting of restrictions, the current conditions remain challenging for landlords and tenants.
"This will give landowners more time to finalise relief agreements with their tenants and apply for the rebate," he said.
Chris Mountford, executive director for Queensland at Property Council, said the extension of the deadline for the rebate application is a sensible decision by the state.
"This relief is important as it increases the capacity of a landlord to support tenants that have been adversely affected, taking pressure off their cash flow at this critical time," he said.
Since the announcement of the rebate, the state government has approved $91m worth of land tax relief, benefitting 7,000 taxpayers.
