I’m proud to say that Washington Brown has reached a major milestone, we are celebrating 40 years in business this month and I reckon that’s pretty cool!
Not many businesses reach 40 years, in fact according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 60% of business fold within the first 5 years of operation.
I was Washington Brown’s first employee, a cadet, 23 years ago. In fact I worked for free for the first 8 months because, at the ripe old age of 24, I felt that I was getting too old to get into the construction industry.
This was just after the late 80’s and there still weren’t a lot of jobs in construction, as interest rates reached 17% back then.
We have certainly faced tough times, grown larger than I ever thought, but most importantly, always strive to deliver outstanding service.
As a company we also have a lot of fun along the way.
I don’t think I’ll be running the company in another 40 years, but I’d bet money that Washington Brown will still be around then.
