One in five Australians are “not confident” in their ability to correctly file a tax return, according to a recent survey bu the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). As a result, the ATO is launching a series of Tax Time Toolkits to help citizens make sure they are filing correctly.

The toolkits contains fact sheets and a directory of links to data, tools, calculators and other resources – including answers regarding key tax time questions, including how to monitor one’s refund, how to use ATO Online services and how to navigate resources like the myDeductions tool in the ATO app.

“Each toolkit has been designed to help Australians in areas where the ATO knows taxpayers are at risk of making a mistake when they’re preparing and lodging their tax return,” said ATO Assistant Commissioner Kath Anderson.

The areas in question include work-related expenses; income; gifts and donations; record keeping; and rental properties, which will give one a better grasp on what income needs to be declared and what deductions can be claimed.

The Tax Time Toolkit is available online. You may download it or it emailed to you.

ATO is the principal revenue collection agency of the Australian government, managing and shaping the tax and superannuation systems that support and fund services for Australians.
